This Day In Hockey History - December 4th Edition
December 4th…

I cast my vote several weeks ago and I’m urging you to do the same, if you haven’t already. Fans are voting to select the lineups for the 2009 NHL All-Star Game in Montreal January 25, 2008. Here are the results as of December 3, 2008. In the East Top 3 Forwards : Alexei Kovalev, Saku Koivu and Alex Tanguay (all Montreal) but Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, are starting to catch up. Top 3 Defensemen : Andrei Markov, Mike Komisarek (both Montreal) and Sergei Gonchar (Pittsburgh).

December 3rd… 1929 - Boston Bruins began an NHL-record 14 game winning streak (and an NHL-record 22 game home winning streak) with a 3-1 win over the visiting Montreal Canadiens.

After the latest outburst by Sean Avery you wonder if Avery will be able to last the whole season in Dallas, or will he be shown the door? While Avery is a good hockey player, its incidents like this that make me come to the conclusion that Sean Avery is a world class jerk. Why the heck would he need to say something like this?
The Atlanta Thrashers broke records with three goals in less than a minute, but they couldn’t keep the Montreal Canadiens from scoring just enough to beat them anyway.
Pittsburgh Penguins start Sidney Crosby is closing on a trio of Montreal Canadiens in voting for the NHL all-star game.

MONTREAL — Hubert “Pit” Martin, a four-time NHL All-Star in the 1960s and ’70s, has died after his snowmobile plunged into an icy lake, Quebec provincial police said. He was 64.
I decided to check on the NHL Standings today. I try not to get too caught up in it since it really just stresses me out but today is the start of a new month and, well, I wanted to get the big picture before we head into the final month of this year. So far, the San Jose Sharks have a good 5 point lead over the two nearest teams (Bruins and the Rangers) but it’s far from a runaway yet. Still, a 12 point difference between the #1 (SJS) and #10 (Calgary Flames) teams is pretty significant. It will be interesting to see how things end up looking as the teams head into the new year… Here are the league-wide standings : San Jose Sharks - 41 points Boston Bruins - 36 points New York Rangers - 36 points Detroit Red Wings - 34 points Pittsburgh Penguins - 31 points Anaheim Ducks - 31 points Montréal Canadiens - 30 points Vancouver Canucks - 20 points Minnesota Wild - 29 points Calgary Flames - 29 points image: TSN Tags: 2008 nhl standings , hockey , hockey standings , NHL , nhl hockey , nhl standings , San Jose Sharks
